Shrineflow is the 2023-24 capstone project and the 9th video game produced by the BYU Center for Animation, and a finalist for the Rookies 2024 award for Game of the Year. It is a competitive 1v1 asymmetrical hide-and-go-chase game between a stealthy ninja and a magical kitsune. The game thrives off of its core experience of fun, power and intelligence.
My role within the Shrineflow team was prototyping, game design and UI/UX. I was one of 5 developers to participate in the project from start to finish. In the beginning, we worked on rapid prototyping and iteration to hammer down the core experience and integral gameplay decisions, such as win conditions, abilities and level design. As prototyping moved on, I began to focus my work on the game’s UI. This allowed me to be the UI lead for the project when more members joined the team at the start of the 2023-24 school year. Throughout the end of the prototype build and through the stable build, I worked on UI design through iteration to make sure our players were receiving and understand the information we needed them to have to experience the game at its fullest potential.
